Watercolor Birthday Chicks - MFT February New Products Launch

February 7, 2018

It's time to shop! MFT February new products are available for purchase now!

I'd like to share a watercolor card I made using the new Birthday Chicks stamp set.

It's a very simple card. I stamped the images with Tea Dye Distress Ink on watercolor paper and colored them with watercolor pencils. I also painted the background with my watercolor pencils.
I cut it with a die from the A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX Set 2 Die-namics and matted it with a Peach Bellini panel. The sentiment was heat embossed on Whip Cream CS with Gold Embossing Powder and cut out with the Stitched Fishtail Sentiment Strips Die-namics.

I'm still learning how to use watercolor pencils. But I'm happy with what I've done so far. I really like that watercolor pencils blend beautifully and give a soft and dreamy look to the images. I also like that I can add details over the watercolored images as I did on the party hats, the candles, and the cupcake liner.

  32. I might have already said this on Instagram, but the coloring on this is just superb. I love the beautiful highlights you managed on the chicks (which is so hard sometimes with yellow!) and the halo of light around the candles. I also love what you did with the background; you're right about the watercolor pencils creating a real dreamy quality, but I also think it has a lot to do with how you colored those dots and stripes to go with it. Everything works together so nicely. Thanks for sharing this lovely idea!

  55. Hello there Torico. Love all your cards, but I think I agree with you and prefer the more feminine and pastel colours for the magical Mandala card. I just received mine today and have been playing all day, hehehe. I saw you using some very narrow double sided tape. Could you please give me information about that too, i.e. brand and width? Thank you so much.

  56. Sorry, I forgot to say thanks for the tip about using vellum underneath and colouring it. It looks wonderful and I hadn't thought of doing that, so that's an additional card I can make with this gorgeous die.
