Merry & Bright - MFT Hits & Highlights

October 30, 2018

For this month's MFT Hits & Highlights DT Challenge, we're challenged to feature products that include “merry” in the name or to add some brightness to our projects.

I pulled my inspiration from a few beautiful images I found on Pinterest, like HERE and HERE. I decided to add some brightness to my cards using the bokeh background technique.

For the blue one, I inked a piece of watercolor paper with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink using a Mini Ink Blending Tool and spritzed a little water over it. Then I stenciled a lot of circles using the Basic Shapes - Circles Stencil, White Shimmer ink, Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink, and a sponge dauber. Once the inks dried, I added some white spots and twinkles here and there with a white gel pen. I stamped a sentiment from the Snow Globe Sentiments stamp set with Dark Brown Shimmer Ink and adhered the panel to a Smooth White card base.

I made a yellow/gold version with the same technique. The inks used to create the bokeh background are Mustard Seed and Fossilized Amber Distress Inks, and White Shimmer Ink.

Birthday Greetings from Monsters - MFT Color Challenge 104

October 25, 2018

It's time for a new color challenge over at the MFT Challenge & Inspiration blog
I immediately thought of Halloween when I saw the color pallet. But, I wanted to do something different. I thought that an idea I got easily was what other people would also think of quickly, I should be more creative!

So I decided to make a masculine birthday card using the More Monsters stamp set and the Bundle of Balloons Die-namics. I donate many of the cards I make to a children's home. I heard that they need a lot of birthday cards. I hope this card will make someone's day special.

It's a pretty simple card to make.
I made a standard A2 card from Steel Grey CS and spattered some white ink over the top half of the front. Then I heat embossed a greeting from the More Monsters stamp set.
I stamped and die-cut out the monsters and the balloons. After adhering the balloons, I drew the strings with a white gel pen, then adhered the monsters with thin foam squares.

Tweet Winter Wishes - MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge 408

October 24, 2018

Hello! Today I'm sharing a holiday card that I made for this weeks MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge (WSC 408).

I used the 'tweet' couple of birds from the Tweet Holidays stamp set for my focal point. I put them on a Blu Raspberry panel cut with the Inside & Out Stitched Circle STAX Die-namics, adding a die-cut medallion.
The sentiment is from the Snowglobe Sentiments stamp set. It was heat embossed on Steel Grey CS and was cut out with a fishtail strip die from the Hearts in a Row - Horizontal Die-namics.

For the background panel, I heat embossed the Marble Background with Silver Pearl embossing powder. I rarely use this powder, but I love to use it for holiday cards as it adds elegant and shiny texture.
The holly images in the Tweet Holidays stamp set were perfect for the small circle elements in the sketch. I used Red Berry Crystal Drops for the holly berries.

MFT Festive Flamingos Card Kit Release

October 23, 2018

MFT October Card Kit, Festive Flamingos, and the new stamp set, Sweet Holiday Penguins are available for purchase now!!

Today I have two cards to share for more inspiration for you!

The first card features the Festive Flamingos stamp set & Die-namics.
Those flamingos with antlers cracked me up! 😂 I couldn't help embellishing their antlers with glitter!

The background scene was made using the Drifts and Hills Stencil and the Trio of Trees stamp set.

My second card uses the Sweet Holiday Penguins stamp set & Die-namics along with the Happy Christmas Die-namics which is this month's mid-month Free with $60 die.

I stamped the images with Cement Gray Hybrid Ink and colored with Copic Markers and colored pencils. That little penguin in a gift box melts my heart!!
For my background, I stamped the Snowfall Background with silver pigment ink and added a Red Hot Felt panel cut with the Stitched Scallop Edges Die-namics. I love the warmness that felt adds. I tried to make a dotted line along the bottom edge with White Crystal Drops, then made a mess on a few of the dots. 😢 Could you please ignore them?

Sweet Holiday Penguins

October 22, 2018

It's Day 2 of the MFT Festive Flamingos Card Kit Countdown. But, I'd like to share a card with you that features the Sweet Holiday Penguins stamp set. It will be available for purchase at the same time with the Festive Flamingos Card Kit, on October 23 at 10:00 am EDT.

I'm totally in love with all the critters Stacey Yacula draws. They are beyond the cutest! Plus, PENGUINS!! It's my most favorite animal. You can't imagine how I got excited when I received this stamp set. LOL!

I stamped the images on watercolor paper with Extreme Black Hybrid Ink and colored them in watercolors. I also painted the background with watercolors and added some falling snow with a white gel pen. After it dried completely, I cut out the scene using the Stitched Dome Frames Die-namics.

I adhered a panel of patterned paper to a Whip Cream card base, then put the watercolored panel to the center. I die cut the Stitched Dome Frames three times from Berrylicious CS and once from Smooth White CS, and layered them, the Smooth White frame on top.
The sentiment was heat embossed on Red Hot CS, and it was cut with a die from the Tag Builder Blueprints 5 Die-namics. I attached it to the card with foam tape adding a hemp bow.

MFT Festive Flamingos Card Kit Countdown Day 1

October 21, 2018

The MFT October Card Kit Countdown has just begun. This month's kit is called Festive Flamingos, and it is cute and funny! :D In addition to the kit, we have a special release this month!! A new illustrator, Stacey Yacula has joined MFT, and her first stamp set will be released! Make sure you visit the MFT blog for the full reveal of the kit and Stacey's stamp set, and for more inspiration from the DT.

(NOTE: The products written in boldface are included in the kit.)
Today I combined a funny flamingo from the Festive Flamingos stamp set with the Beach Scene Builder Die-namics to create an odd scene.
I cut a panel of Lavender Fields CS using the A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX Set 1 Die-namics and daubed some Purple Rain Premium Dye Ink to make an ombre background. I die cut and assembled two palm trees, then added SO much falling snow by spattering white ink. I used the coconuts die to cut the 'ornaments' on my palm Christmas trees.

The flamingo was stamped, colored, and cut out with the matching die. I had her (him? I don't know.) stand on a snowy ground cut with the Stitched Basic Edges 2 Die-namics
I added some Glossy Accents to the ornaments on the trees and the lights on flamingo's neck. I also added a little shimmer to the flamingo with a Wink of Stella pen.

The new kit, as well as the stamp set designed by Stacey Yacula, will be available for purchase on October 23 at 10:00 am EDT

Ideas for Perfect Poinsettia - MFT Tips & Tricks

October 11, 2018

It's time for a Tips & Tricks feature over at the MFT blog. Today I'd like to share a few ideas for using the Perfect Poinsettia Die-namics

I know that red poinsettia is the most popular in the winter holiday season. But I like white poinsettias and pink poinsettias, too. While red ones are gorgeous and have a huge impact, white ones look elegant and pink ones are so pretty. Right?

Here I used patterned paper to get a casual look. I also added a little bow and a sequin to the center. These could be a cute accent on a gift wrapping for children.

For the left one, I cut a couple of petal pieces out of Primitive Cream CS that I stamped the Christmas Background with Antique Linen Distress Ink. I distressed the edges of the petals with Tea Dye Distress Ink and added some Champagne Stickles to the center. After I assembled the poinsettia, I added Fresh Snowfall Glitter Accents for a frosty effect.

For the right one, I die cut the petals out of Wild Cherry CS and inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. It adds a more dimensional look to the flower.
The links to the other products used are below at the bottom of this blog post.

I made a short video showing how I shaped a poinsettia. Actually, I thought that I should have done valley folds on the petals for more realistic look after seeing all the fabulous creations by the DT. But I decided to share this anyway because I think this technique works for any other die cut flowers. (Click HERE to watch the video on YouTube.)
